Poinsettias
We
have decades of horticultural expertise growing the perfect poinsettia for the
holidays; the Armstrong Poinsettia. We use only the best horticultural practices
at every step in the growing process from selecting the best genetics, quality
cuttings, rich soil, optimal temperatures, pinching the poinsettias with
precision and finishing with the right
amount of light for a fully colored poinsettia at just the right time.
This attentiveness to quality gives you poinsettias with the most intense color on a healthy, sturdy plant that lasts in your displays or your customer's homes through the holidays.
Growing Poinsettias for premier resorts, amusement parks, commercial properties, landscape maintenance companies and independent retail garden centers throughout California, Arizona and Nevada.

Globally-Sourced Cuttings
We plan for over one million square feet
of greenhouse space in two locations to
grow this amazing crop. Crop times for
each size and variety are meticulously
planned so the plants are ready when
you need them.
Most of our cuttings come from
Guatemala, where they are grown at
the base of two volcanos in special,
climate-controlled greenhouses under
expert care. Every day, workers carefully
select Armstrong cuttings for air-freight
each night. A strict protocol is followed to
ensure the plants are disease-free. Each
procedure is timed to make sure the
cuttings are handled with the utmost care
and at the proper temperatures.
Quality Grown
Once in California, our growers place
the cuttings in containers with predrilled
holes in our specially blended
Pindstrup Danish Peat Soil Mix. Misting
areas keep the cuttings hydrated while
they begin to take root. Our growers
use a time-tested method that includes
temperature, light and fertilization to
ensure a strong root system that allows
us to build the body and shape of the
Armstrong Poinsettia, slowly yielding
a sturdy plant. The growing tips are
pinched at the right place to stimulate
branching for the specific container size.
Once the initiation of the starter plant
is underway, we move the plants to
the greenhouse where they are spaced
out in stages, yet keeping them close
enough to ensure the proper "V-shaped"
branch structure.
Consistent Growing Methods
We choose to "slow-grow" Poinsettias
in cool conditions, allowing the plants
to tone with passive airflow. Our
facilities are located near the ocean
and our greenhouses are built to funnel
cool air over the crop at optimum times
throughout the day. These steps, while
costlier, produce a more durable, longlasting
plant. Our growers walk the crop
daily discussing weather conditions and
making adjustments to the greenhouse
environment to make sure you receive the
best-looking, best-performing Poinsettia
that holds up with shipping.
Packaging
The final - and most critical - step is packaging and shipping properly. Every Armstrong-grown Poinsettia is shipped in a paper sleeve - NEVER plastic. The paper wicks away harmful moisture that builds up during shipping and provides rigid support.
